Book of the Fallen Slot Review

Get into another thrilling ancient Egyptian escapade with the return of John Hunter in the latest addition to the ‘Book slot’ series – Book of the Fallen. This instalment proves to be a captivating entry in the ever-popular ‘Book mechanic’ genre. While the visual presentation maintains a somewhat standard approach, appealing to the tastes of traditional Book enthusiasts, it is the unique features that truly set this release apart.

What distinguishes Book of the Fallen are two key elements. Firstly, players have the remarkable ability to freely choose their Expanding Symbol. This level of autonomy in symbol selection is a rarity in the gaming landscape, providing players with strategic choices. Opt for the high-risk, high-reward Explorer or opt for a more cautious approach with safer alternatives. This feature adds a layer of excitement and personalisation to the gameplay.

The second standout feature is the introduction of the Super Spin Ante Bet. Departing from the conventional method of purchasing an entire bonus round feature, this innovative feature lets players pay extra for individual spins in the base game. This unique twist gives players greater control over their gaming experience, allowing for a more tailored and potentially rewarding adventure.

Book of the Fallen goes beyond the typical conventions of its genre, offering you a refreshing and engaging experience with the freedom to shape your destiny in the ancient Egyptian realm.

Book of the Fallen RTP

Maintaining the hallmark of the John Hunter series the Book of the Fallen boasts an expected RTP of 96.50%. In line with the series’ tradition, this slot offers a high level of volatility, providing players with an exhilarating gaming experience. The maximum top prize is an impressive x5000 times your initial bet, adding an extra layer of excitement to every spin. Get ready for a thrilling adventure with the potential for significant rewards in the Book of the Fallen.

Book of the Fallen Slot Features

The Book symbols in this slot play a dual role, functioning both as Wild and Scatter symbols, a common characteristic in such games. In its role as a Wild, the Book substitutes for all regular pay symbols, aiding in completing winning combinations. Additionally, it offers payouts of 2, 20, and 200 times your stake for landing 5-of-a-kind wins. Regular premium symbols, on the other hand, provide rewards ranging from 75 to 500 times your stake for the same achievement.

Triggering the Bonus Round involves landing 3 or more Book scatters anywhere on the reels, leading to the allocation of 10 free spins. During this round, the Book unfolds, presenting the player with the unique opportunity to select their preferred Special Expanding Symbol for the feature. The volatility of the feature is influenced by the chosen symbol’s value, and these expanding symbols pay from any position as long as enough instances land on the reels.

Setting itself apart, the Super Spin Ante Bet feature allows players to pay 10 times their regular bet size for exclusive ‘Book of’ mechanic spins. Choosing the preferred Special Expanding Symbol is possible when the Ante Bet is active, and changing the symbol requires toggling the feature off and on again. It’s important to note that payouts are calculated using the regular bet size, excluding the Ante Bet extra.

For non-UK players and those in eligible jurisdictions, the Bonus Round can be directly purchased for 100 times the total stake. This instantly grants 10 free spins, with the option to choose the expanding symbol in advance. Both the Ante Bet (96.49%) and the Bonus Buy feature (96.48%) marginally decrease the default 96.5% RTP, with no significant impact.

Book of the Fallen Review Summary

While Pragmatic Play’s Book of the Fallen does nothing to revolutionize the ancient Egypt visuals that so many ‘Book slots’ come with, a glance under the hood should make any Book connoisseur interested. Being able to choose your own Special Expanding Symbol is a game-changer, although it has been done before in Playson’s mostly forgotten Book of Gold: Symbol Choice.

We have a feeling Book of the Fallen will fare better than Playson’s effort though, not only due to a better visual presentation but also because of the Super Spin Ante Bet feature. This allows you to try your luck with a chosen expanding symbol at any time, but we’re unsure how the UK Gambling Commission will view this recent Pragmatic innovation. The 1 in 2,118,644 max win chance is another reason to give this one attention, and Book of the Fallen should be highly interesting for all book fans out there.
